When I heard about a shop dedicated purely to serving proper no fuss porridge, I have to say that I was slightly dubious. However – I can happily report that The Bristol Porridge Project exceeded all expectations.
I wouldn’t really consider myself a massive porridge fan – being quite partial to porridge with golden syrup on the odd occasion – but always getting fairly bored within a few mouthfuls. Given the option between poached eggs and avocado or a bowl of porridge – I know where my order is being placed – without hesitation! However, it would appear that The Bristol Porridge Shop is here to re-educate us all.
A small shop nestled away on Trenchard Street just up from the O2 Academy, you would be forgiven for missing this unassuming little delight.
Bristol Porridge Project offer a range of 6 porridges, all made using oats rolled in-house and water, and for a very reasonable £3. The porridges on offer cater for all sweet tastes, and come served with a mound of cheeky little toppings. I opted for the ‘Crunchy Nutty Heaven’ which came with big chunks of flapjack on – a welcomed surprise!
